Pacquiao must Challenge Mayweather instead of De La Hoya

Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao expressed confidence that he could beat Oscar “The Golden Boy” de la Hoya, the 10-time world champion in six weight divisions, in their December 6 fight in Las Vegas. He said he never imagined fighting the 36-year-old de la Hoya, whom he described as a “superstar” and “boxing’s biggest draw.”

29-year-old Pacquiao said his fight with de la Hoya will be one of the “defining moments” of his career, a Cinderalla-like journey from a street hawker to the Philippines most successful and wealthiest athlete. Pacquiao’s American trainer Freddie Roach said in an interview that Pacquiao is capable of winning a “tough fight” against de la Hoya, a feat that would earn Pacman a place among the great boxers of all time.

Pacquiao, the reigning World Boxing Council (WBC) lightweight champion, would need to bulk up as much as 10 pounds for his first fight as a welterweight at 147 lbs. De la Hoya, who has not fought below 150lbs for nearly eight years, has agreed to pay $3 million for every pound he exceeds the 147-lbs limit.

For me, If Pacman is as great as he think he is, he should challenge boxers whose performance is not declining. In my view, De la Hoya, Morales and Barrera have declining performances when he challenged them. Why not a re-bout against Juan Manual Marquez? I think he was not able to show that he is better than marquez though he won by judges' score cards. Or why not challenge Mayweather? Mayweather may have retired but i think his better than De la hoya at the moment.
